Wilmington Boys Hockey No. 3, Girls Basketball No. 4 as Playoffs Arrive

The playoffs get underway this week as Wilmington plays games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The postseason is officially upon us, and for Wilmington High School fans, that means it's time to cheer on a pair of teams hoping to make deep playoff runs.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its playoff pairings over the weekend, and two Wildcat teams are among them.

Wilmington's boys hockey team skated to a record of 12-3-7 in its first year in Division 1 after winning the previous two state championships at Division 2. As a result the Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will take on No. 14 Matignon on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

A win would put the Wildcats into the quarterfinals against either Medford or Acton-Boxborough.

The Wilmington girls basketball team, as has been the case annually in recent years, is among the top seeds in North Division 2 play.

The Lady Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the bracket thanks to a record of 16-4. They'll host Dracut on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round, with the winner advancing to play either Hamilton-Wenham or Stoneham.

If Wilmington can advance past that game, they would potentially take on top seed Watertown. The Wildcats handed Watertown its only loss of the season and the two have played two thrilling contests during the regular season.
