Wildcat Track Teams Compete in League Meet, Three Athletes Earn Titles

Wilmington's girls took eighth in the Middlesex League meet while the boys ended the day in fifth.

The Wilmington High School track and field teams were in action at Regis College on Tuesday, and a trio of Wildcats took home titles during the Middlesex League Championship Meet.

Overall, the boys team had the strongest finish on the day as Wilmington finished in fifth place. The Lady Wildcats, meanwhile, ended the competition in eighth.

A pair of Wildcat athletes snagged two championships. Eli Jennings won the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 6 inches. He also took home the discus crown with a toss of 162 feet, 2 inches.

Also for the Wilmington boys team, Steve Layon was first place in the javelin with a distance of 148 feet, 1 inch.

Kaitlyn Cowden, meanwhile, won the shot put and discus for the Lady Wildcats.In the shot put she tossed just over 35 feet while in the discus she heaved 108 feet, 10 inches.
