New Year Starts With Busy Week for Wildcats

Wilmington High School teams get right back to work after a few days off for 2012 to turn into 2013.

When the New Year gets underway, it won't take Wilmington High School teams long to get back to work.

First on Wednesday, the girls track team travels to Melrose for a meet that begins at 5 p.m.

Also on the day is a hockey doubleheader. At 6 p.m. the girls hockey team plays in Watertown while the boys hockey team drops the puck at 8 p.m. inside the same venue.

Thursday it's the boys track team that gets the call in Melrose, beginning its meet at 5 p.m. The wrestling team faces a steep task as it grapples against perennial powerhouse Winchester at 7 p.m.

Friday's slate includes basketball tripleheaders at home and on the road. In Wilmington, the Lady Wildcats host Stoneham with freshmen, JV and varsity games scheduled for 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.

The boys meanwhile, have the same schedule of games. The only difference is that the boys team will play its trio of tilts in Stoneham.

Saturday is also a busy day for Wildcat teams. The JV track teams travel for freshmen and sophomore meets at 9:30 a.m. while the wrestling team hits the mat at 10 a.m. in the Chelmsford Tournament.

Then at 12 p.m., the boys hockey team travels to Melrose for a road tilt while the girls hockey team hosts Bishop Fenwick at Ristuccia Arena. Puck drops at 2:30 p.m. for the Lady Wildcats.
