Late Surge Moves Girls Basketball Into North Semifinal

Wilmington High School pushed past Danvers, 54-47, in the North Division 2 quarterfinal round on Sunday and will next face unbeaten Reading.

After losing the lead it held for much of the North Division 2 quarterfinal, there was no quit in the Wilmington High School girls basketball team. They'd been there, done that.

The Lady Wildcats leaned on the experience they gained in reaching last year's semifinal round to do the same on Sunday. After Danvers knotted the score at 47-47 with just over one minute to play, Michelle Woods hit several critical shots and Wilmington scored the rest of the game's points en route to a 53-47 win. Woods led the locals with 20 points.

Thanks to the victory, the Wildcats earned a date with unbeaten top seed Reading, which is seeking a second consecutive state championship behind Olivia Healy, considered by most the top player in the state.

Tip off comes Thursday at 7 p.m. in Woburn with a berth in the sectional final on the line.

Congratulations to the Wilmington Girls Basketball team. Go all the way!!! I want to see you all rub the championship trophy in the Wilmington loser Selectmen's faces for allowing your home gym to be knocked down during February vacation when they could have done it during April vacation or when school is out for the summer instead. Tell your parents not to vote for them this election.

Kevin, I can't believe that you are now trying to use our girls successful basketball team as a vehicle to help promote your agenda to get our selectman out of office. In then what, replace them with a bitter person like yourself. First of all, the voters of our town decided to knock down our gym when we by a wide margin voted for our new HS. This demolition process is already 8 months behind and it should have started last July and the meter is running because of bitter people like you. It is now funny that you now are using our girls basketball team and couple of weeks ago it was our Pop Warner Cheerleaders and Football teams, who's limelight you ruined by bringing in your spite and distain for our town selectman. Kevin I spend every weekend going to sporting events in this town, to home and away games to watch our kids play and root them on. Not "once" have I ever seen you at any of these sporting events and now you seize this opportunity to use them to promote your vendetta against the wishes of the good people of Wilmington. I suggest that if you are going to use our kids for your personal needs, then get out of your cave and start supporting our children in person. Then maybe you will start to realize that these kids deserve the opportunity of a good education in the right enviroment. Kevin you have every right to take on our town officials and yes even the voters of our town, but please leave "our kids" out of your twisted spiteful fight to be heard.

Joe, I whole heartly agree with all that you state! I usually don't post under any articles, however I will say.....at this point Kevin has reached a new LOW, making left handed comments and using articles, that don't pertain what he states. Any chance he gets whatever the article maybe, he slanders the "Good People of Wilmington" Also the worst thing we can all do is comment under his comments. It's what he thrives on and tries to get an arise out of us. I for one let him spew his own words....I don't feed his fire, and neither should anyone else...IGNORE his comments, because at the end of the day it shows his character flaws.... On another note, sticking to the article....Good Job Ladies! Best of luck in your next game!!!
