To say the Wilmington boys hockey team is a seasoned group of skaters is an understatement. And on Wednesday night, it paid off yet again.

With nine players who have played for two state championship teams, the Wildcats were not rattled as they fell behind Arlington, 2-0, on Wednesday night during the first period of the North Division 1 semifinal round at Chelmsford Forum.

"There is nothing that can replace the experience of going deep in the tournament," said head coach Steve Scanlon. "Although sometimes you get down, we know we are never out of it."

The Wildcats proved that Wednesday as they stormed back in regulation to tie things at 2-2. Wilmington went on to win it in overtime as Luke Foley parked in front of the net and tipped home Jimmy Davey's shot from the point at 2:32 of the extra session to seal a 3-2 victory.

Following the win, Wilmington has a date with fellow Middlesex League foe Reading, which beat the Wildcats by a 6-3 margin in the team's season opener.

Reading and Wilmington will square off on Monday night on the ice of the Tsongas Center in Lowell at 8 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the state championship at TD Garden, where they will take on either Barnstable or Braintree.

"We've got some tough competition coming up, but we have faith," said Foley. "We have a lot of heart on this team and it's awesome to see."
