More Details on the Sudden Closing of Focaccia's

According to a former employee, the restaurant closed suddenly following a dispute between ownership and management.

Last week Wilmington Patch reported that Focaccia's, one of Wilmington's most popular restaurants, had apparently closed its doors with little to no notice

A former Focaccia's employee who agreed to an interview with Wilmington Patch on the condition of anonymity said the restaurant's closing was as much a surprise to the staff as to Wilmington residents.

According to the former employee, a dispute between ownership and management occurred on Saturday, Nov. 16, leading the kitchen staff to walk out and ownership to shut the restaurant down.

"We are all so saddened by this and feel terrible about our customers," the employee said. "Now we are trying to all find work right before the holiday season."

Focaccia's, located at 2 Lowell St., was closed the morning of Nov. 18, the only explanation being a neon poster board reading "Closed."

Focaccia's website also appears to have been taken down.

Upon hearing of Focaccia's closing, Susan Amato, owner of Angelina's in Tewksbury, contacted Wilmington Patch hoping to reach out to former employees of Focaccia's who are looking for work heading into the holiday season.

"With it so close to the holidays this closing will be devastating to many families," Amato said. "I would like to reach out to them and and offer help if possible."

Amato said she currently has some positions open for servers, bartenders and dishwashers.

Angelina's still has several openings available for holiday parties if anyone who had a party scheduled at Focaccia's is looking for a new location, Amato said.

Amato said she will also honor 25 percent of Focaccia's gift cards at Angelina's.
