When Is The First Day of School in Wilmington?

Find out when the first day of school is in Wilmington, as well as some other important dates in the upcoming school year.

Although it feels like summer just kicked off, it's already time to start about thinking the upcoming school year, so in this week's installment of are "You Ask, Patch Answers" column, we're taking a look at when the first day of school is in Wilmington.

According to the Wilmington Public Schools website, the first day of school for Wilmington students in grades 1 through 12 is Tuesday, Aug. 27. 

The first day for preschool and kindergarten students will be Tuesday, Sept. 3. 

Teachers will be on duty beginning Monday, Aug. 26. 

Here are some more important dates over the upcoming school year in Wilmington:

  • There will be no school for students on Friday, Sept. 20 due to a professional development day for teachers. 
  • There will be early dismissal on Friday, Oct. 4 for curriculum improvement time.
  • Wilmington High School parent conferences will be held the evening of Thursday, Nov. 21.
  • There will be early dismissal on Wednesday, Nov. 27 ahead of two days off on Nov. 28 and 29 for Thanksgiving. 
  • There will be early dismissal Wednesday, Dec. 4 for early childhood and elementary school parent conferences. 
  • There will be early dismissal Thursday, Dec. 5 for middle school parent conferences
