Multiple Wilmington Students Vying for Hood Scholarship

Residents can vote for candidates on the Hood website, with national winners receiving $5,000.

There are plenty of student-athletes in the halls of Wilmington High School deserving of recognition.

Several Wildcats in particular are close to receiving that recognition thanks to the annual Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship Program. But they need the community's help.

Six Wilmington students are finalists for the national award, which will give the 18 winning entries $5,000 each.

Residents are encouraged to vote for the winner now through April 18 at 3 p.m. Each entry includes an essay on why the participant should be selected for the scholarship.

Wilmington's Rachel Alatalo, for example, tells the story of how she's constantly cheering on her fellow Wildcats, whether on the sidelines or in the bleachers watching a game.

She's joined by classmates and fellow Hood finalists Kaitlyn Curley, Samuel D'Angelo, Connor Grealish, Kory McGilvray and Craig Smith as Wilmington's representatives in the contest.
