Model UN Club Thrives in Year's First Conference

The group traveled to St. John's Shrewsbury, where 16 students debated a variety of issues.

Wilmington High School’s Model United Nations club went to their first conference of the year on Saturday, October 20. Model UN is a debate club in which students travel to different conferences to debate current events, both local and global.

Model UN gives students the unique opportunity to perfect their public speaking skills with their peers, as well as allowing them to debate issues that they feel passionately about.

On Saturday, Model UN traveled to St. John’s High in Shrewsbury where 16 WHS students debated issues such as AIDS/Malaria in Africa, Employment and Economic Growth, Terrorism in the Mediterranean, and many other issues that the world faces today.

The group’s advisor is Mr. Matt Hackett, a History/Sociology teacher at Wilmington High School. The group's president, Hannah Briere, and vice president, Joanna Torres, are both seniors at WHS. The group’s Public Relations Liaison, Emma Ceres, is a sophomore at WHS. The group consists of a mixture of students from every grade level.

WHS’ Model UN will have their second conference coming up in December, followed by one in March.
