Michelle Woods is Triple Threat for Wildcats

A three-sport athlete, the senior is currently a captain for the Lady Wildcats basketball team.

As part of a new feature on Patch, we will highlight the efforts of Wildcat athletes on a weekly basis. We begin with senior basketball player Michelle Woods.

Finding something to do during the school year isn’t much of a problem for Wilmington High School senior Michelle Woods.

Woods plays three varsity sports, and is currently a tri-captain for the Lady Wildcats basketball team, which clinched a playoff spot with a win this week versus Wakefield.

In addition to her contributions on the hardwood, she also suits up for the Wilmington tennis and volleyball teams.

“I don’t really have a favorite sport, just because they all bring different things to the table,” said Woods. “I really enjoy all the sports I play.”

The senior is still whittling down her choice for college next year, but is leaning towards attending Wheelock College. Woods hopes to play Division III basketball as a way to stay in shape and meet new people, she said. In addition, Woods hopes to become an elementary school teacher.

According to Woods, the most memorable part of her senior year so far has been the way the Wildcats clawed back from a 2-6 start to reach the postseason.

“It’s all gone by so fast. I can’t believe it’s almost over,” said Woods. “It was really memorable the way we picked it up and started winning again after the start we got off to.”

While it would be easy to take credit for her own athletic success, Woods is quick to dish off the credit.

“I have the best teammates, and I couldn’t thank them enough,” said Woods. “They’re so supportive, and they keep pushing me and motivating me. That’s why we’ve been so successful.”
