Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

Obama won Massachusetts, taking 60 percent of the vote to Romney's 38 percent. In 2008, Massachusetts voted 64 percent for Obama and 36 percent for Republican John McCain.

Obama’s performance in Massachusetts wasn't necessarily surprising, considering the Bay State has voted for the Democratic/Republican candidate in recent presidential elections.

Love it Carol, I hope that we can all see the peril in where we are,and how we divide.Need to find a way to be America United again. p.s. thanks for bringing it back to earth.

@J Mac: Big Shame on yourself for your incorrect opinion of the type of people that voted for Obama and the reason you THINK they voted for him. Most Obama supporters actually do care very much about the future of the country and the economic situation, however unlike yourself, we believe Obama is the better person to lead this country in the right direction out of this mess.

Obama Care Highlighted by Page Number Judge Kithil of Marble Falls, TX - highlighted the most egregious pages of HB3200 Please read this........ especially the reference to pages 58 & 59 **Page 272: At age 76 when you need it most, you are not eligible for cancer treatment. **Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally. ** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts. ** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations ** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax. Seriously? WE are talking about the leader of the free world, not an inspiring cheerleader. The stock market crashed, and will continue to fall is because the average middle class American is looking to hide there cash before Obama takes it.

In making such prophecies--in itself a questionable, historically unwise activity--you inevitably raise the question: What if you are wrong? How much energy are you willing to expend to make SURE that you are wrong? How much are YOU willing to do--to compromise, to empathize, to change--in order to guarantee a better world for everyone? Not only you and your children, but all Americans? Or are you, as so many on this Patch seem, quite dedicated to the cause of disaster, just so long as you can blame "the dems"? Oddly enough, Mr. Boehner gets it. Do you???

Nice try, J. Parker. Didn’t Barnum once say that “there is a sucker born every minute”? Although your list is commonly attributed as originating with a letter sent to Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana by Dr. Stephen E.Fraser, an Indianapolis anesthesiologist, or as a letter sent to the River Cities Tribune by David Kithil, a former county judge in Marble Falls, Texas, it is actually the work of a Peter Fleckenstein, who issued the list as a series of Tweets and posted it to his blog in July 2009. This list refers to the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, which was never passed by Congress. A completely different bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, became the basis for what is now known as "Obamacare." Many of the entries in the list are therefore irrelevant and outdated, as they address aspects of health care reform legislation that were never enacted by Congress (particularly the "public option" for a government insurance plan). Virtually every statement included in this list is exaggerated, misleading, inaccurate, or outright erroneous.

@J Mac: America is Great! Can we do better? Of course, and House willing, we will. Enough of your fear mongering, over the top doom & gloom already! This is reality, time to accept it. For the well-being of your son, don't fill his head with all of your fear & don't let him (or anyone you care about) watch FOX News - it messes with peoples minds. ".......what can you do for your country?"
quasimodo November 09, 2012 at 04:15 AM
When you don't have an answer, Mac, attack the messenger. Who's the idiot?
Just Saying November 09, 2012 at 04:31 AM
I love that you took the time to correct J. Parker, but sadly, unless Fox News reports this over and over and over and over and over and over and over, about 47% of Americans just won't believe it. It's only true if Fox says it's true.
DannyBoy November 09, 2012 at 04:32 AM
Folks, the elections are over, and no matter who you voted for, can we all agree that it cannot be business as usual down in Washington DC, with the political gridlock in place? All branches of the government need to work together and compromise in order to solve our problems and move our nation forward.

Commonsense, I think there was a matter of terrorists crashing jets into wall street and other such inconvenient truths that may have contributed to the stock market crash in Bush's first nine months in office. Then there was the housing bubble issue promulgated by the Community Reinvestment act of 1977. Then there was Wall street not helping by packaging and selling derivatives. Those are just the highlights contributing to the stock market decline in Bush's terms in office. So how was any of this Bush's fault?

DannyBoy: It would be nice to see the sides work together, FOR US. I wouldn't be willing bet a weeks pay that it will happen. You may see "stop gap" efforts taking place, but I don't think those 535 will ever sit down and work for the common good of the country. Reid, Boenher, Mitchell, Pelosi & the President will see to it that that "Main Street America" continues to get screwed. Face it, those in power are corrupt, owned by Special Interests. All in Congress are 1%ers, do you really think they want to take $$$ from their pockets, when it is easier to take it from YOU & ME?
M C Stringfellow November 09, 2012 at 01:00 PM
To Deb: Do you think that 9/11 would not have happened if Gore had won in 2000? The extremists had been planning the attack for years. We would have been at war anyway. Duration would have been the only thing different, maybe shorter, maybe longer. Hind sight is great. AND the Supreme Court did not rush in, they were asked to review and make a decision. Which, I believe is their job. Republicans today are sore losers, If the shoe was on the other foot, Democrats would be the sore losers. Two side to every story. All we can hope for is a big cut in federal spending and maybe not so big of a tax hike. I do not see the job market improving at any great rate over the next two-three years, but I do see more people on welfare (which we cannot afford), more homeless, and the elderly not being able to make ends meet. What to choose? Housing and food or medicare which will not cover all their needs. We are not a Democracy. We are a Republic. Majority does not rule. We need to start thinking about Americans and their needs. Democrats have always fed the less fortunate with fear, by promising anything and everything. Republicans have always been for the business sector, which actually runs this country by providing jobs. IF you really want to change things and have a balanced budget , elect a housewife as President. She does not need to belong to either party as HOUSEWIFE is a party unto its self.
M C Stringfellow November 09, 2012 at 01:14 PM
No, Obama spent the first 4 years trying to bankrupt the country while blaming it on Bush. Granted, Bush did leave a deficit, but Obama increased it. He only has 4 years to make it better. He has inherited is own mess. Good luck to him. He need to learn to compromise with the House and the Senate. As they also need to learn the same. WITHOUT SELLING US COMPLETELY TO CHINA. He though it was a "tough row to hoe" in his first term, it just got tougher. His ego will not let him give way to a smaller deal.
CommonSenseCitizen November 09, 2012 at 06:06 PM
J. Parker, I am sorry the bubble you thought was reality burst the other night. I know it surprised Karl Rove as well. Anyhow, here is a link that proves everything you cut and pasted from a chain email you received is false. It covers everything you posted above and more: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/ The simple fact is what you have been told is wrong. It goes against Obama so you believed it. I don't know you personally, so I can't speak to your level of intelligence, so I won't call you dumb. And I am certainly not saying Democrats are always correct. What I *am* saying is that when something sounds so completely and absolutely foolish (like what you posted above, Sarah Palin's concept of "Death Panels" or the idea Obama was not an American Citizen), believing those things and repeating them as fact makes you look even more foolish. People *will* question your intelligence at that point. There are facts and there are talking points. PLEASE note the difference. The majority of the United States already has.

Next Tuesday the Congress is in session and hopefully will get to work on the financial issues that have to be addressed before the end of the year. The solutions will require compromise on both sides. Would suggest keeping track of those not willing to compromise or work together (My way or the highway!) and as for the House of Reps, they are all due for elections in 2014. 2013 is the year to begin to work with or against those Reps whose views agree/disagree with ours. Until then, write our current reps and senators and let them know how you feel . Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. Again, let them know how you feel. A postcard, a short letter, it will be read by someone and a tally kept of views which will make it to our reps. None of these guys/gals want to be fired and we, by means of our vote, can fire them.

The election results of 2010/2012, What do they mean ? Voting for Obama is like sleeping with a Whore according to Silvio Berlusconi, you feel great while you're doing it, you feel disgusted after the deed. You feel regret once the doctor tells you the bad news about your new STD's. I guess what I'm worried about. What will children inherit further on down the road and not past indiscretions. The danger to our country and the world is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the office of the Presidency. It would be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. Cognitive Linguistics only proves out that the opiate of the people would be comprised of that entity providing for what the people want. As our children are enabled our adults are entitled which is why Obama won the heart and souls of our people. We are plagued and damned as a people to one way of thinking, brain washed by media from all sources. What is needed is a new awakening, and opening up of ones mind. "Being responsible and mindful" The problem is much deeper and far more serious than President Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.
quasimodo November 09, 2012 at 10:00 PM
That you take your "inspiration" from Silvio Berlusconi says pretty much about you and the worth of your opinion. Too funny.

On the way home, I had the radio on, a liberal rant from WBUR/NPR radio. Without a trace of embarrassment or irony in Tom Ashbrooks voice, the newscaster spoke about a mock vote taken at the local high school. "Barack Obama won in a landslide," he gushed. After two generations of leftist indoctrination by unionized educators, whose quid pro quo relationship with the Democrat party is written in stone, I don't doubt it for a minute. Nor was I particularly shocked earlier this year when my daughter came home from nursing school asking me about who Madam Curie was. Also about her professors at Salem State University whom saturated my daughters mind about who was in control of her body, vaginas and future generations. Also how Obama was the Messiah and that everyone was expected to vote all Democratic this time around or else the Tea Party would take away their right to terminate 9 month old fetuses in the womb. They deferred to the Tea Party as the cause of every problem in our society from Birth Control, Rape and Homosexuality. Literacy? If it can't be reduced to 140 characters for Twitter's sake, it no longer matters. Kids are no longer ashamed of being ignorant. In fact, many of them are proud of their cluelessness. Now, most of them barely know what shame is, other than having someone say something bad about them on FaceBook. And pride is all about owning the latest gadget, replacing the gadget that replaced the gadget before that. How about a free Condom ?
