Wilmington Police Warn Residents of Phone Scam

Several Wilmington residents reported receiving an apparent phone scam on Friday.

The Wilmington Police Department sent out a reverse 911 call to residents Friday afternoon warning them of a phone scam.

Police said several residents reported receiving a call that a family member of friend was in a motor vehicle accident, and to forward money to Western Union or go to the scene of the accident.

If you get a call like this, police are recommending asking the caller for proof or information only your family member or friend would know.

According to police, these calls are being treated as a criminal matter and residents receiving such a call should report it to Wilmington Police immediately.

You can reach the Wilmington Police Department at 978-658-5071.
