Wilmington Offers Tribute to Fallen Firefighters

Wilmington firefighters taped "33" on their fire engine's window.

Since the line of duty death of two Boston firefighters last week while fighting a nine-alarm fire on Beacon Street, there have been many tributes around the state, region and country.

One simple, yet touching, gesture comes from the Wilmington Fire Department.

A Wilmington Patch Twitter follower shared a photo of a Wilmington fire engine, which has "33" taped onto the truck's window. This shows respect for Engine 33, which lost two firefighters in the flames when they were trapped in the basement.

The Wilmington Police Department is helping pay respect as well, but in a different way.

According to the group's Facebook page, two Wilmington officers joined with other NEMLEC officers to provide traffic assistance in Watertown on Wednesday for the funeral of Lt. Ed Walsh, who was killed alongside firefighter Michael Kenned.
