Wildcats Narrowly Avoid First Round Upset

Wilmington advanced to the quarterfinal game with a 3-2 win.

It was close. But the Wildcats are moving on.

Upstart Matignon nearly pulled a shocking upset on Wednesday night as they erased a two-goal third period lead against the Wilmington boys hockey team.

Despite the late pressure, Cody McGowan scored his second goal of the game in the final period to seal a 3-2 victory for the locals.

Thanks to the victory over No. 14 Matignon, No. 3 Wilmington advanced to the Division 1 quarterfinal game. That's where the Wildcats will take on Medford, which clipped Acton-Boxborough, 4-2, thanks to two third period goals.

Details have not yet been released for that game, but it will likely take place on Saturday.
