Police Log: Train Strikes a Truck, Items Reported Missing

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Sunday, Aug. 18, to Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Sunday, August 18

7:41 a.m.: Calling from Grove Ave., a resident reported two purses and a laptop stolen from his house during the night. The two purses were located, though the laptop was missing. A purse was also located in front of a Cottage Street home, though it may have been a throw away since it was in bad shape.

11:05 a.m.: Massbay Commuter Rail reported that a train struck a pick up truck on Concord Street. They said the conductor walked down to the crossing and the vehicle had already left the area. The conductor said the truck went around the gates and was clipped as the truck went by. There was minor damage done to the truck.

5:25 p.m.: A Carter Lane caller said a man rode by their house on a bike that was stolen from their son the other day. The man ran from her husband into the woods and the husband went back there to find him.

Monday, August 19

2:02 a.m.: On Swain Road a vehicle had a smashed out rear window, and the damage had been done at this location. It appeared that someone threw a glass bottle at the vehicle, though nothing was taken.

12:49 p.m.: A Wing Road resident reported that about 10 minutes prior to calling, his grandsons were walking on Woburn Street and a white van with a ladder on top drove by them and flipped them off. The van then turned around, causing the children to run into the house. The vehicle was gone on police arrival.

Tuesday, August 20

7:32 a.m.: The Wilmington High School construction foreman reported vandalism at the construction site. Officers found the side window of a large dump truck was broken. The vehicle was in an area of the school grounds not accessible to vehicles. 

1:34 p.m.: Medical aid was requested in town and a resident was transported to Winchester Family Medical Center. Chanelle M. Magnett, 23, of 20 Chestnut Street, North Reading, was arrested and charged with possession of Class A drugs.

6:01 p.m.: A car hit a pole on Woburn Street, then fled towards Concord Street. The car mirror struck the pole, but the car appeared to be be pulled over on Great Neck. As it turned out, two vehicle traveling in two different directions struck two different poles within seconds of each other. The vehicle that left the scene was described to officers, but was gone on arrival.
