Police Log: Larceny, Snow Troubles, and Avalon Fire

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Friday, February 8 to Saturday, February 9.

Friday, February 8

4:08 a.m.: On Burlington Ave., a caller reported that a black male just threw some items on his porch and left in a small dark blue sedan. According to the caller, the male had been up against the window looking in and when confronted threw a piece of paper on the porch and left. Police were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

12:06 p.m.: At City Sports on Industrial Way, police arrested Marcela I. Rizzo, 33, of 273 Farnham Apt. 2, Lawrence, for larcent over $250.

2:40 p.m.: Dispatch received a call for a 50-year-old woman on West Street who fell and possibly broke her ankle. She was transported to Lahey Clinic.

3:45 p.m.: Police assisted with a porch fire on Avalon Drive. The fire destroyed an apartment building, leaving several residents displaced.

6:10 p.m.: A care fire was reported in the Knights of Columbus parking lot. Lowell firefighters put out the flames.

Saturday, February 9

1:39 a.m.: Two disabled snowmobiles on Richmond Street were impeding plow operations. They were towed to the residence of their owners.

6:17 a.m.: On Rhode Island Road, a plow truck was on fire. The flames were put out and the vehicle was towed from the area.

8:30 a.m.: Police received several calls for residents clearing snow into the street or areas where it was a hazard.

9:27 a.m.: An off duty officer reported a plow truck stuck in the driveway on Woburn Street street. The officer assisted the driver in getting the truck out. The driver, who damaged a fence at the home, offered restitution but the homeowner was very aggravated and ordered the operator off his property.

12:14 p.m.: Officers received a call for a possible domestic incident on Main Street. Joseph T. Scifo, 37, of 11 Main Street, Wilmington, was arrested and charged with assault and battery.
