Police Log: Hit and Run and Fourth of July Issues

The following information was supplied by the Wilmington Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Saturday, July 6, to Monday, July 8.

Saturday, July 6

3:53 a.m.: A Houghton Road resident told police someone was shooting off fireworks at the end of the road. Officers reported that it appeared there was a group in the area, but it is quiet now and they were unable to locate evidence of fireworks.

9:29 a.m.: On Avalon Drive a resident reported a man who has been staying with her for about a week stole her keys and maxed out her credit cards. A 38-year-old Clinton man was summonsed for assault and battery.

11:58 a.m.: Inside Market Basket, a caller reported that a man just stole numerous items and ran out of the store. Upon arriving, police concluded that the man did not appear to have stolen anything, though they were unable to locate him.

8:51 p.m.: A man near the library was sent home for the evening regarding not following the rule for Fourth of July festivities that vendors can not sell items within a 1/2 mile of Town Common.

Sunday, July 7

1:50 a.m.: Multiple callers reported a gathering on Cobalt Street where there appeared to be some yelling and fighting. An intoxicated man was taken into the custody of his parents.

1:55 p.m.: A resident reported a woman with an infant appeared to be hiding behind trees on Middlesex Ave. and the infant was only wearing a diaper. Police were unable to locate the parties in question.

4:25 p.m.: The lifeguard at Silver Lake requested police assistance removing a group from the beach. About 35 individuals were escorted off the beach and sent on their way.

10:47 p.m.: A hit and run was reported on Mass Ave., and the caller said the vehicle left with heavy front end damage. A 56-year-old Tewksbury man was summonsed for leaving the scene of property damage.

Monday, July 8

5:19 a.m.: Medical aid was requested on the I-93 ramp. The Fire Department responded and State Police was notified that the vehicle will be left in the breakdown lane until someone could pick it up.
