Police Log: Dog Left in the Car and Fleeing an OUI Crash

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Sunday, June 30, to Tuesday, July 2.

Sunday, June 30

6:11 p.m.: The lifeguards at Silver Lake were off duty and reported there were still about 100 people on the beach and a strong odor of Class D drugs in the area of the bath house. Police were unable to locate any issues upon arriving at the scene.

Monday, July 1

2:18 a.m.: An employee at Dunkin’ Donuts reported that a homeless man was in the area for the last few hours and is now going through the trash and standing at the drive thru. Police moved the man along and he left towards the train station.

12:50 p.m.: Police were called to CVS for a report that a dog was inside a vehicle for about 30 minutes. The Animal Control Officer responded and reported that the owner was inside getting medicine for the dog. She was advised to head straight home and give the dog water and let it cool down.

6:34 p.m.: A truck fire was reported on Ballardvale Street. A fire extinguisher from the responding officer’s car was used and is now out of service. A tow truck was requested for the truck that caught fire.

Tuesday, July 2

11:26 a.m.: A Somerville Ave. resident called to report chickens in his yard.

5:17 p.m.: Police were called to the scene of a crash with a pole on Nichols Street struck and split in two. The driver took off on foot and was taken into custody on Ohio Street. The man was transported to Lahey Clinic with officers following to press charges. George B. Harris, 50, of 26 Ledgewood Drive, Burlington, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, second offense. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, resisting arrest, possession of Class C drugs and two outstanding warrants.
