Police Log: Attempted Assault With A Car and Coyote Spottings

The following information is provided by the Wilmington Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Sunday, Sept. 1

3:02 a.m.- Police received a call from Brand Avenue reporting a group of four to six young adults causing a disturbance in front of a residence, with two males pushing each other and shouting. The responding officers reported the parties were running in the direction of Old Shawsheen. An officer requested the Fire Department to Brand Avenue to treat a male with laceration to the face after an assault. One individual was taken into protective custody.

10:22 p.m.- Police received a call from Jacquith Road from an individual reporting his sister attempted to hit him with the car she was driving. The caller reported he moved out of the way and his sister struck two parked cars in their driveway. She drove off on Jacquith Road toward Shawsheen Avenue and was believed to be heading to Tewksbury. 

Valerie R Belding, 19, of 36 Jacquith Road in Wilmington, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with a  dangerous weapon and two counts of destruction of property of more than $250.

Monday, Sept. 2

2:31 a.m.- A manager at the Main Street CVS reported a shoplifter.

Michele M Venezia of 8 Glade St., Billerica, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250 and shoplifting by concealing merchandise, third offense. 

Tuesday, Sept. 3

6:40 a.m.- A Chandler Road caller reported a tree down with wires down and arcing occurring. Reading Light was notified. 

3:16 p.m.- A Lowell Street caller reported a red pickup truck operating erratically with occupants cutting off vehicles and yelling obscenities. Responding officers could not locate the vehicle. 

6:58 p.m.- An individual came into the station to report her neighbor had been poisoning her dog. The individual was referred to the Animal Control Officer. 

Wednesday, Sept. 4

6:52 a.m.- A caller reported while walking her dogs this morning around 6 a.m. on Beeching Ave she saw a coyote. She was concerned because the coyote started to approach her and said she turned around and left the area.
