Police Log: A Phone Scam and Reports of Car Break-Ins

The following information is provided by Wilmington Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Wednesday, Sept. 18

2:57 p.m. A caller on Mystic Ave reported receiving calls on her cell phone and at work from someone claiming to be  sheriff out of New York stating if she sent money via green.moneypack at CVS a warrant would be cleared up. The caller was advised it was a scam.

Thursday, Sept. 19

8:32 a.m. A caller on School Street reported their vehicle was entered and two passports as well as some loose change was taken.

6:50 p.m. An individual  came into the police station to report sometime in the last 3 days her vehicle registration was taken out of her unlocked vehicle.

6:51 p.m. Police received a call from Sonny's On the Run on Loweel Street reporting three females physically fighting in the parking lot. All parties have since left.

10:37 p.m. A resident of Taplin Avenue reported the house behind his had been vacant for some time and he believed someone was on the property with a flashlight looking through the dumpster. Officers spoke to the individual who was scrapping without permission. He was sent on his way.

Friday, Sept. 20

3:33 p.m. Police served a female shoplifter at CVS on Main Street a no trespass order and summons. 

10:20 p.m. A caller report the occupants of a vehicle in front of him were throwing beer cans at his car. All of the individuals in the car were transported back to the police station and their parents were called to pick them up. their vehicle was towed.

10:55 p.m. Police received a call reporting individuals on ATVs were riding extremely close to the tracks. An officer sat at the tracks and could not locate any ATVs or see any lights. Amtrak was notified.
