A number of towns around Middlesex County have been listed among the "50 safest communities in Massachusetts."

Wilmington, however, was not among them.

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted the low crime rates and other local programs of surrounding communities. Sudbury earned the top spot on the list.

Closest to Wilmington on the list was Reading, which came in at No. 19 and was described as a "not only safe, it’s stable, progressive and offers your children an award-winning school district."

Reading features a violent crimes per 1,000 residents rate of .40, with a property crimes per 1,000 rate of 7.49.

Also among the nearby towns ranked by Safewise.com was Andover at No. 23, Lynnfield at No. 26 and Winchester at No. 28.
