Why is Wilmington Memorial Library Important to You?

Library seeks input during National Library Week.

National Library Week is April 8 to April 14, and Director Tina Stewart is looking for community input.

"First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April," said Stewart. "The slogan for this year’s celebration is 'you belong @ your library.'  Whether you are a job seeker looking for resources to land a new job, a parent looking for free activities for children or a student searching for your next favorite book, we invite you to tell us - Why is the Wilmington Memorial Library important to you?”

Share your thoughts in the comments section below and let Stewart and other librarians know just why the local library is such a critical resource to you.

I remember how excited I was when I could finally get my own library card. Ever since, the library has been a place to relax, enjoy books, and even attend events. With the Book Store Next Door, the library is now enjoyed by not just Wilmington residents but people all over. The librarians are friendly and helpful, and the resources available are pretty up to date. I am away at college but when I come home on a few weekends, I try to stop by the library or the book store to see what's new.

Love the library and the Book Store Next Door. Books, movies, music, and great programs. What's not to like. Thanks to the library staff and the Friends.

We LOVE Wilmington Public Library! As a librarian at a college, I continue to be impressed with the events, services, and online resources made available to Wilmington residents at our local library. We've saved tons of money entertaining our 2 toddlers using the library museum passes for discounts and attending the wonderful and free children's programs. Wilmington residents are also extremely lucky that the Friends of the Library operate the Bookstore Next Door - a fantastic way to buy cheap books and give back to the library.
