Marion E. (Hurton) Bransfield


Marion E. (Hurton) Bransfield, age 83, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home on Nov. 14, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.  

Marion was born on May 18, 1930, in Malden, MA.  She was the cherished daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Carlan) Hurton.  Marion was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1948.  

Marion married her high school “sweetheart” James T. Bransfield, on Oct. 17, 1953, celebrating more than 60 years of marriage.  They have many fond memories to last through generations to come.  Marion and Jim moved from Malden to Wilmington in 1959, where they raised a beautiful family.

Marion always put her family first.  She was a devoted wife and a dedicated mother to Rosemary, Jim, Patti, and Jack.  Marion’s love for her family was unconditional.  She was always there to support their decisions.  When Marion became a grandmother her life took on a whole new meaning. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. She was always there with a beaming smile.  Marion was so proud of each and every one of them; they were the light of her life.  

Marion loved to travel, especially her trips to Seminole and Madeira Beach, Florida. She enjoyed going to the beach and golfing; Marion was known to be an avid golfer.

Marion was a talented dancer and for many years she and Jim belonged to the Skirts and Flirts Square Dancing Club in Wilmington where they made countless friends throughout the years.  

Marion was a woman of great faith and an active communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington.  Marion’s love of God, her support from her family, and her strong faith sustained her throughout the years. Marion always remained upbeat and positive.  

Marion will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile.  She was soft spoken, sweet, kind and caring. She never had a bad word for anyone.  Marion was quite a “lady” who was devoted to her family and friends.  They will miss her dearly.  

Marion was the beloved wife of James T. Bransfield, devoted mother of Rosemary Bransfield, James Bransfield and his wife Martha all of Wilmington, Patricia Cain and her husband Fred of Wolfeboro, NH, and the late John “Jack” Bransfield, mother-in-law of Joan Bransfield of Westford, loving grandmother of Caitlyn Bransfield, Jennifer Cain, Fred Cain and his wife Melissa, Meredith Bransfield, Kerri Bransfield, Scott Bransfield, Catherine Bransfield, Julie Bransfield, Meaghan Bransfield, and great-grandson Bryer Cain.  Sister of Paul Hurton of Chelsea, the late Arlene Kellogg and William Hurton.  Marion is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, Nov. 18th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m.  Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.  Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 17th 4-8 p.m.
