Leo M. Woodside, 72

Wilmington resident of 50 years.

 

Leo M. Woodside, age 72, a Wilmington resident for nearly fifty years formerly of Melrose passed away unexpectedly in his home on May 6th. Born in Melrose he was the beloved son of the late Mel and Lillian (Silbey) Woodside.

Leo was raised and educated in Melrose where he was a graduate of Melrose High School. Following graduation he served with the Wakefield National Guard Unit for six years. Leo worked most of his life in the food services. He was employed as a Cook at Rocco's Restaurant, East Gate Restaurant, Hazlewood Cottage and was a Co-owner of the Woodside Restaurant in Wilmington for seven years. He also worked together with his sister at their family drug store, Wilmington Center Pharmacy, which was family owned and operated for 35 years. Leo retired from Philips Andover Academy where he worked in the cafeteria and also worked in central services for seventeen years.

Some of Leo's hobbies and interests included collecting baseball cards, gardening, bird watching, and a special love for cats. He was a former member of the Wilmington Lions Club and was also a former member of the Wilmington Housing Authority. In years past Leo also enjoyed being involved with Wilmington Flag Football and coaching his nephews.

Leo is survived by his beloved sister Carol MacMullin of Wilmington. He was the cherished uncle of Paul MacMullin of Wilmington, Steven MacMullin of Haverhill, David MacMullin of Derry, NH and Denise DiCiaccio of Tewksbury. He was the loving great uncle of Glen and Tara MacMullin, Paul and Evan MacMullin, Alec, Andrea, and Adam DiCiaccio, Aaron and Eric MacMullin. In addition to his late parents, Leo is predeceased by his brother-in-law, the late Paul MacMullin.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington, Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Leo's memory to Local Heroes Inc., P.O. Box 536, Wilmington, MA 01887.
