Wilmington Sons Of Italy Hold Annual Scholarship Night for 2014

  Monday evening June 16th  the Wilmington Sons Of Italy closed the lodge year with their annual scholarship award night. Every year the  Wilmington Sons Of Italy give away 6 scholarships to students form the local area, from either public, or private schools . The Lodge also provide 1 graduate level scholarship. This year as in past year a 7th  scholarship  is  also given in memory of a departed member of the lodge. The scholarships  are for undergraduates $1,000, and for Graduate level $2,000. The money is  derived from  the  many  functions  during the year that the lodge runs.

    The Sons of Italy is an organization of people of Italian heritage who's main goal is  fraternal and philanthropic. Besides the scholarships the  Wilmington Sons of Italy, Donate to "The Relay For Life," Alzheimer's Association, Cooley's Anemia Foundation, which is doing research to  find a cure for Thalassemia a hereditary blood disorder that affects people  of Mediterranean decent, as well as many other  charities. The Sons of Italy also have donated  well over $100,000 to the Wilmington  for many of its sports  projects such as the  new scoreboard  for the  new high school, the  playground at the  North  School, and uniforms  for the various sports teams  and also  the school band.

    Brianna Fruciano, recipient of the "Past Presidents Award. This is  a scholarship in honor of all the many past presidents  of the  Wilmington  Sons Of Italy.

    Cory Stillings, received the  Laura Caira Scholarship award. Laura her late husband Aldo  along with  others  founded the  Wilmington Sons of Italy back in 1964, and she is still very active in the lodge and continues to hold an elected office in the Lodge.

   Nicholas Troy, received the  Gerald Esposito Memorial Scholarship Award. Jerry was a charter member of the  Wilmington  Lodge, who passed away  from cancer at a young age leaving a wife and four small children. He was the  first of our membership to pass away.

   Mariana Otis, received the  Fr. Francis Mackin Memorial Scholarship Award. Named in honor of Fr. Francis  Mackin  a beloved  priest from St Thomas and first Chaplain to Wilmington Lodge.

   Shianne Carmona, received the  Christopher S.Dicecca  Memorial Scholarship Award. Chris  was a long time  member and past president of the lodge, His wife is still a member.

    Kory McGilvray, received the  Sons of Italy Memorial  Award.

    Celina Calo,received the  2nd annual Rosemary Malvone  L.P.N Memorial Award. Rosemary was a long time beloved member of the  Wilmington Lodge who  Passed away  in 2012 after a long and  courageous battle  with cancer.

 The Wilmington Lodge  wishes good luck and great success to all the  winners of the scholarship this year.
