May was First Communion Month for the Catholic Community
May has many things to offer: warm weather,(although this year that remain to be seen), Mother's Day, Memorial Day with parades, memorials, and cookouts. It is also First Communion Month for the Catholic Community of Wilmington and South Tewksbury.
Starting on May 3rd and concluding on May 24th every Saturday between 20and 30 Children received their First Communion, dressed in he traditional white suits for boys and white dresses and veils for the girls. This is considered the second sacrament of initiation in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.
According to Mrs.Mandosa . the Director of Faith Formation for the Community, 157 children received their First Communion in May, at both St Dorothy's , and St Thomas churches. This culminated a whole year of preparation and education by the 2nd graders. This is a great expenditure of time for the children as well as their parents who have to balance busy work schedules, sports schedules and dance schedules to complete the program that led up to their First Communion.
