Wilmington Salutes Armed Forces With Veterans Day Ceremony

A Veterans Day ceremony was held on the Wilmington Common Monday in honor of all those who have served our country, past and present.

Wilmington residents gathered Monday on the town common to show appreciation for those who have and continue to serve our country as members of the United States Armed Forces.

State and local officials spoke on the importance of honoring veterans not only on Veterans Day, but on a daily basis.

State Rep. James Miceli noted that Wilmington is active community in supporting veterans and veterans services through Ipods For Wounded Veterans and other programs.

"This is an active community that remembers  those who have sacrificed their lives, their time and suffered to ensure our freedom," Miceli said.

Wilmington Selectmen Chairman Michael McCoy offered thanks to those veterans gathered in Wilmington on Monday.

"Veterans Day is a day to say thanks and give heartfelt appreciation to the veterans who are with us today and those who are no longer with us," McCoy said. "Thanks to their sacrifice, we lead a very safe and productive life."

The Wilmington High School Band provided music throughout the ceremony, including the playing of "Taps" to close the ceremony.
