Flu Shots Still Available to Wilmington Residents Through Board of Health Clinics

Find out how to get a free flu shot in Wilmington.

In this installment of You Ask, Patch Answers, we're answering a question about where to get a free flu shot in Wilmington.

The Wilmington Board of Health offers residents free flu shots during flu shot clinics throughout the fall and winter.

The next Board of Health flu shot clinic will be held on Nov. 25 at Wilmington Town Hall from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The clinic is for ages 5 and up, with the following restrictions:

  • Anyone allergic to eggs or egg products must not take this vaccine.
  • Anyone with a fever or acute illness should delay vaccination.
Be sure to bring your Medicare and HMO cards.

Director of Public Health Shelley Newhouse said the Board of Health has not administered as many flu vaccines as it usually does by mid-November.

"I think it's because more and more pharmacies are giving out flu shots now," Newhouse said. "As a public health department I like to promote getting vaccinated through our clinics."

Newhouse said it has been a relatively mild flu season so far, although the worst months for the flu usually don't come until mid-winter.

"I haven't had any reported cases of the flu yet," Newhouse said. "But the season usually peaks in February."

If you can't make it to the flu clinic scheduled for Nov. 25, call the Board of Health at 978-658-4298.
