Tomatopalooza!

The only thing we love more than our tomatoes is sharing

them … Ok, I guess we like eating them too, but we love tomatoes so much that
we’re going to dedicate our next farm event entirely to them!

Farmer Dave’s will host Tomatopalooza at our farm at 437 Parker Road in Dracut on Sunday, August
18th. The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a tour of our farm (and
some snacks along the way) that will lead to our tomato patches where Dave will
talk growing techniques. Following the tour, we’ll hold a tomato tasting in our
barn led by Angel, Ginger, and our intern staff. We’ll also let you help us
select which tomatoes we will enter in the 29th Annual Massachusetts Tomato Contest, held at the City Hall Plaza

Farmers Market in Boston
on Monday, Aug. 19th.

We decided to spice up this year’s event with a salsa contest! Entrants must register at 9 a.m. on the day of the event and adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Limit
    one entry per person
  • Salsas
must be made with fresh ingredients
  • The
    heat factor must be mild
  • Each
    entry must be 16-ounces
  • Recipe
cards (three copies) must be provided for each entry
The salsa will be scored on appearance, taste, consistency, and originality, in a blind tasting by our judging panel -- CSA manager Ginger, CSA member Tammi Wilson, and Chef Scott Pelletier of Fuse Bistro in Lowell. The winner will take home a Farmer Dave’s swag bag and a box of tomatoes; the second and third place finishers will win a Farmer Dave’s t-shirt.

There are only 100 spots available for Farmer Dave’s Tomatopalooza and registration is required. To register, please send an email with your name and the size of your party to Angel at angel@farmerdaves.net by Wednesday, Aug. 14th.

We

hope to see you there!
