Throughly Modern Millie

On November 21st thru 24th Andover High School Drama Guild will bring “Thoroughly Modern Millie” to the stage of the Collins Center. Millie is a musical based on the 1967 movie starring Julie Andrews. The show opened on Broadway in 2002, and was the recipient of 11 Tony Nominations, winning 6, including Best Musical and Best Actress for Sutton Foster.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is the tale of a Kansas girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City in 1922 to find a rich man to marry, as opposed to finding true love. This attitude was considered modern at that time, when women were first entering the American workforce.
Millie embraces style of the day, becoming a flapper, cutting her hair and wearing short skirts, dancing the night away at speakeasy clubs. Problems are lurking in the big city as she unknowingly takes a room in a hotel owned by the evil leader of a Chinese white slavery ring, shipping unsuspecting girls to Hong Kong, never to be seen again.
The style is black comedy, but the portrayals are rich in comic detail. Mille is chock full of big dance numbers, featuring some amazing tap dancers, and lavish production numbers featuring the voices of the entire 44 member ensemble cast.
Period costumes, lively music, dancing, romance and hysterical comedic performances make Millie delightful a must-see for the whole family. Join the madness of modern life in the 20s and get tickets for Thoroughly Modern Millie now.
Tickets are available at the Collins Center box office, by phone at 978-623-8666 and online at www.andoverdrama.com. Adult admission is $20. Students and seniors $15.
