Would You Support a Slots Parlor in the Wilmington Area?

The $200 million project would include 1,250 slot machines as well as other amenities, according to multiple reports.

One of Wilmington's neighbors could be the future home to the sole slots parlor in Massachusetts.

According to multiple reports, Penn Gaming Company is proposing a $200 million slots parlor in Tewksbury on 30 acres of land off Ames Pond Drive.

The slots parlor would come along with a hotel and restaurants, and would be located near Interstate 495/Route 133 interchange, according to the Lowell Sun

There is allowance for one slots parlor in Massachusetts, and Tewksbury will be competing with at least four other proposed sites - Leominster, Millbury, Raynham and Plainfield, according to the Sun.

According to a report from the Boston Globe, the Tewksbury parlor would include as many as 1,250 slot machines as well as other amenities.

Tewksbury residents have already started to chime in on whether or not Tewksbury is the right place for a slots parlor, bringing up issues such as property values, proximity to schools and increases in tax revenue.

Reached by phone Thursday night, Tewksbury Selectman Douglas Sears said a slots parlor would bring the financial infusion to the town that the Mills Mall project was intended to bring.

"It is an an industrial area convenient to highways," Sears said. "Penn will manage this well as its investment is huge."
