Wilmington Limousine Company Closed As "Imminent Hazard to Public Safety"

The company was issued to cease operation Tuesday by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Lynette's Limousine Service, based in Wilmington, was ordered by the federal government to cease all operations on Tuesday, as "its vehicles and drivers pose an imminent hazard to public safety," according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The order to cease operations came following an investigation by the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, according to the release.

Investigators found that Lynette's failed to inspect, maintain or repair its vehicles, and allowed vehicles that had failed inspection to transport passengers, according to the release.

The owners of Lynette's also failed to monitor and ensure drivers complied with hours of service requirements, allowed unqualified drivers to transport passengers and failed to ensure drivers complied with controlled substance and alcohol use testing regulations, according to the release.

“When it comes to safety, there is no cutting corners,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro in the release. “We will continue to take immediate action to shut down companies that put the traveling public at risk. Safety is paramount.”

The phone line at the business appeared to be out of service Tuesday afternoon.
