Used Book Superstore to Open Wilmington Location

If you like buying books at bargain prices, you'll soon have a new option to do so here in Wilmington. 

Used Book Superstore recently announced they would be opening a store in Wilmington.

According to Planning Director Carole Hamilton, Used Book Superstore will be located at 40 Fordham Road.

Used Book Superstore, which has locations in Burlington, Danvers, Plymouth and Salem, NH, did not have to go through the site plan review process with Planning Board because their facility will not require additional parking at 40 Fordham Road, according to Hamilton.

Representatives of Used Book Superstore requested a waiver of the site plan review process which Planning Board granted them in light of no additional parking being required at 40 Fordham Road.

"They are only proposing interior changes to the building, no enlargement or exterior changes," Hamilton said. 

Used Book Superstore recently announced they would be closing their Plymouth location on Aug. 31 after a year in business.

In an email sent to customers and posted on Plymouth Patch, Used Book Superstore president Bob Ticehurst explained the decision to close their Plymouth location:

"We hired a remarkable staff in this location, who all did their best to provide a clean, well-stocked and well-merchandised bookstore.  Unfortunately, we have not been able to hit the numbers we need to hit to make this location work.  We will never rule out trying another location on the South Shore in the future, but at the present time, being such a small company, we need to focus on running stores that generate enough sales to support the expenses that are generated at each location."
