Lahey Health and Winchester Hospital Make Partnership Official

The hospitals said in an announcement that the partnership will enhance care for communities in the area.

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission completed its review of the proposed affiliation between Winchester Hospital and Burlington's Lahey Health, making the partnership official in an agreement that hospital officials said will enhance care for local communities.

In a Tuesday press release, the hospitals said the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission ruled that Lahey Health and Winchester Hospital demonstrated a commitment to the communities they serve, and showed the ability to deliver "appropriate and cost effective" health care.

According to the announcement, Winchester Hospital patients will gain access to tertiary level services through Lahey Health in addition to continuing the same access they previously had through Winchester Hospital.

In addition, Epic electronic health record, which the hospital said is known for improving coordination of care and enhancing patient experience, will be implemented and both Winchester Hospital and Lahey Health.

"We are thrilled to officially welcome Winchester Hospital into the Lahey Health family," said Howard Grant, JD, MD, president and chief executive officer of Lahey Health, in the announcement. "Since the inception of Lahey Health, we have worked tirelessly to keep costs down and care in the local community where it belongs."

Lahey Health was formed in 2012 when Northeast Health System aligned with Lahey Clinic, now known as Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.

As a part of the affiliation announced on Tuesday, Winchester Hospital will maintain its own Board of Directors which will oversee hospital operations and credentialing medical staff members.

"Our community hospitals have never been stronger, and we expect the same excellent results for Winchester Hospital as it joins the Lahey Health network of providers," said Grant. "Together we will deliver on our commitment to provide greater value, higher-quality care and improved programs and services to the thousands of area residents who rely on us for their healthcare needs."
