Route 38 Closed at Wilmington-Tewksbury Line Due to Flooding

The stretch of Route 38 is expected to be closed for several hours, according to police.

Update 4:23 p.m.- According to police, high winds knocked down power lines and trees in Tewksbury near the Wilmington line. 

The road could be closed until after midnight, according to Wilmington Police. 

Police are asking tractor trailers to detour at Route 129 west from Route 38 north in Wilmington.

Vehicles are being detoured from Main Street in Wilmington, to Lake Street, to South Street in Tewksbury and back onto Main Street.

With a flash flood watch issued Tuesday for Wilmington area, it's no surprise that Route 38 at the Wilmington-Tewksbury town line has been closed to traffic due to flooding. 

The Wilmington Police Department tweeted out word that Route 38 would be closed at the town line in both directions due to heavy rains in the area Tuesday afternoon. 

According to WPD, that stretch of Route 38 is expected to be closed to traffic for at least the next several hours, and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.
