Fire Starts in Paper Baler 235 Andover Street in Wilmington

The fire originated in a machine at 235 Andover Street Monday afternoon, according to scanner reports.

Update 4:11 p.m. -
According to Wilmington Deputy Chief Rick McClellan said the fire at 235 Andover Street started in a paper baler at Office Paper Recovery Systems.

It took firefights approximately 20 minutes to put out the fire upon arrival, and there were no injuries, according to McClellan.

The company sorts paper, cardboard and aluminum as well as designing and implementing commercial and residential recycling and shredding services.

McClellan said the fire in the machine was difficult to put out because the material that had caught fire was so compacted.

Firefighters used foam and water to put out the fire, according to McClellan.

There was a large amount of smoke inside the building when firefighters arrived, making it hard to determine how much damage was done to the machine or the building, according to McClellan.
