With Heavy Rains Expected, Carnival Cancelled for Friday

Rain is expected to move into the area later in the day Friday.

The sun is out Friday morning. But that's expected to change to rain later in the day, and as a result there is one big change for Family Day at Wilmington's Fourth of July celebration.

Due to expected torrential downpours, the Fourth of July Committee announced that the carnival, originally scheduled for Shriners Auditorium, is cancelled Friday.

The group made the announcement on its website on Friday morning, the first time the carnival or other activities have had to be cancelled due to weather in the last several years.

According to the announcement made on the Fun on the Fourth website, the carnival will open once again on Saturday.

Running at regular price on Saturday, the carnival is scheduled to be open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the final day of the Fourth of July celebration.
