Wilmington's Fourth of July Festivities Kick Off on Wednesday

Festivities run through Saturday, starting on Town Common on Wednesday night.

The Fourth of July may not be until Friday. But Wilmington is ready to get the party started on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday marks the first day of the town's annual celebration, which lasts through Saturday.

During the first night of the festivities, the party gets underway with a dinner sponsored by Rotary from 6-8 p.m.

The dinner includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, cookies and lemonade. The dinner costs $6 per person and will be served on Town Common.

From 6-9 p.m. there will be a musical performance by Bailout on the gazebo. During breaks from the band, there will be a limbo contest, freeze dance, and musical chairs.

At 6 p.m., the first round of the horseshoes tournament gets underway, as does the wiffleball competition.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the road race takes off, while the ladies two-mile walk gets started at 7 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. hungry residents can participate in the blueberry pie eating contest, while the night caps off at 8:45 p.m. with a free movie on Town Common.
