Ever since my son discovered "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" it’s been all about Daniel. So much so that I spent a significant amount of time trying to see if any character costume company in the state had a Daniel Tiger who could come to his second birthday party, but alas, like many of you I’m sure, some people just don’t know who Daniel is. Needless to say the theme of this year’s birthday party is now - you guessed it - Elmo.
But back to Daniel Tiger - Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is a wonderful, wonderful PBS program based on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” that centers around four-year-old Daniel Tiger (who is the son of the original Daniel Striped Tiger in the Mister Rogers’ series). Daniel’s friend Prince Wednesday is actually the son of King Friday - another flashback to Mister Rogers.
Each episode has a theme, whether it’s about controlling emotions, cleaning up your toys, trying new foods, you name it and all are tied to a catchy song to remind children of the lesson throughout each program.
The program itself is only a year old, launched in September 2012, so while it’s taken off with children via PBS, Daniel Tiger products didn’t necessarily exist unless you crafted them yourself. Until now.The point I’m trying to get to today is that finally, this week - just in time for my son’s second birthday, the Daniel Tiger product line released at Toys"R"Us. And I’m one happy camper! How happy? Let’s just say I took a ride down, bought the five different pieces they had in stock, packaged them into the car and have them at home in front of me right now. While I’ll only give him a couple for his birthday, the rest wlll be waiting for him under the Christmas tree in December.
