Butters Row Bridge Closed Thursday and Saturday

Detours set up to allow MBTA crews to work on the train tracks below.

Residents traveling over the Butters Row bride will need to find an alternate route for two days this week.

On Thursday, the bridge will be closed from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. to allow work crews to prepare the existing timber deck for resurfacing. Then on Saturday, the bridge will again be closed so work crews can install a new wearing surface on the deck.

According to the MassDOT, traffic on the east side of the bridge destined to areas on the west side of the bridge will be directed to follow Route 38 North, turn left onto Route 62 West then and turn left onto Chestnut Street South.

Traffic on the west side of the bridge destined to areas on the east side of the bridge will be directed to follow Chestnut Street North, turn right onto Route 62 East, and turn right onto Route 38 South.

There will be signs and traffic control personnel to guide drivers through the area.

can't we just get a real bridge instead of the one lane traffic hazard? Trucks deemed far too heavy to cross that bridge utilize it every single day, and I'm surprised there haven't been more incidents of road rage on that bridge. Why not just put a full size bridge there and put an end to the issue?
