WCTV Remembers the Fun on the Fourth

Wilmington residents were shocked last month when the Wilmington Fourth of July Committee voted against holding the annual Fun on the Fourth events.  Though their website boasts that “the Wilmington Fourth of July Committee is celebrating 33 years of service to the citizens of Wilmington,” it appears that there will be no 34th year of service in 2014. The Fun on the Fourth, Wilmington’s annual Independence Day fair, has been enjoyed for over 30 years.  Throughout the existence of Wilmington Community Television, WCTV staff and volunteers have covered various events at the Fun on the Fourth celebration, and made them available on the air and online to Wilmington residents.  After it was announced that there will be no Fun on the Fourth event in 2014, WCTV’s Tom Pazyra has compiled a remembrance of Wilmington’s annual festivities from nearly thirty years ago, and titled it “4th of July Remembered”.

Everything from the proud cyclists in the Doll Carriage and Bicycle Parade to the victorious champions of the Baby Crawl Contest have been recorded and aired for Wilmington’s viewing pleasure for decades.  “The Fun on the Fourth Remembered” highlights the best of these events, and looks back at the sense of community and joy found at these events.

In light of the recent cancellation of the 2014 Fun on the Fourth Festivities, WCTV producer Tom Pazyra looks to celebrate the years of delight and festivity from the early Fun on the Fourth events.  You can watch this program on the air on channel 9 Comcast, 37 Verizon, or streaming online at http://wctv.org/WCTV-P-Online 12 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday (1/16/14), 9:30 p.m. Saturday (1/18/14), 7 p.m. Monday (1/20/14), and 2 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday (1/22/14).
