Friends,
Another week of campaigning is in the books! With 38 cities and towns to tackle, there is never a shortage of interesting people to meet or events to attend.
One place I am always excited to go is a local farmer’s market. Many cities and towns host local growers, and hearing their perspective on things is always eye opening. Many of these folks, whether they are growing fruits and veggies, or making soap or maple syrup, work multiple jobs to pay the bills. However, despite the long hours and hard work it takes to make ends meet, the passion these folks have for their homegrown product never wavers. But, beyond that, what impresses me the most, is their dedication to the communities in which they live.
For example, this past week I spent time at the Haverhill Farmer’s Market, and I met community leaders that have been active in the region for years. Many are part of an organization called Team Haverhill, which calls for community action to better the city. There are many similar organizations across the 38 cities and towns in which I am running, and they prove that there is still such a thing as civic pride.
Another stop I made was to a local firehouse in Lowell, where I got the chance to chat with some of Lowell’s bravest. These guys knew exactly how the Governor’s Council functions, and shared their perspective on a wide array of issues. The discussion we had left me feeling that these guys do what they do because they care deeply about the city of Lowell and the people there. Beyond risking their lives on behalf of us, these guys really understand that they are role models for the community.
Being a role model is something I believe very strongly in. I believe many of us owe a debt of gratitude to the cities and towns where we were brought up. I believe life in Peabody, for example, helped shape me into the person I am today. While I understand that being a role model means different things for different people, I myself have always tried to teach fairness and understanding.
One of the reasons I believe I am the best fit for this position is that I tend to dive deeper before rushing to judgment. I believe that what makes America great is that we are able to freely discuss the issues that important to us, or the values that we hold most dear. My job, should you elect me to the Governor’s Council, would be to represent each and every person in this district, not just a few. This district is on the move, and, together, we can do big things. Great things.
I also believe the position that I am running for is one of the last stops for the little guy in this state. When I make a decision regarding a judicial nominee, it will not be politics guiding my decision. It will be the great people of this district. The average Joes have too few voices representing them on Beacon Hill. You can depend on me to ensure that the stakes for the average person are discussed, and that the needs of the 38 cities and towns here are met.
We have big events planned this week, and we look forward to meeting you out on the trail!
Onwards!

More mindless pap from someone running for an office that votes on judges, who get lifetime big money jobs & power. She refuses to disclose what she truly stands for, who is really behind her. I have done my research, and agree with a previous poster Mike. He said he's read stuff on the Patch, etc and can not figure out why she thinks people should vote for her! She never says anything but silly talk. A red flag for sure. I am a proud Methodist Conservative though the leftists outnumber me here-its time for a change. I will ferociously defend faith in God, family values, duty, honor, country in a respectful manner. I call on all people of faith to join me in REJECTING the hard line left wing agenda of the Gay and Lesbian Political Action Committees, who want this seat so badly they have 2 candidates in the race! We need someone to say NO to Duval Patricks pattern of appointing hard left judges who run roughshod legislating from the bench. Take the recent horrific case of Andrew Goodman NYC. A savage homosexual animal, he was guilty of 48 counts of criminal sexual acts-the rape of young boys! Instead of a life sentence, New York state Judge Martin Murphy gave this cretin just 2 years! Like so many judges in the northeast, Murphy has a history of letting homosexual deviants like Goodman off easy. Nothing can be done, life tenure like Mass. God forbid GLBT candidates are elected-they would happily vote in more like Murphy at the behest of their handlers! Say NO to Duff & Epply!

Kudos go out to Sally here and to Anne Sweeney on similar post on the Patch. All the leftists demand "tolerance" of their extreme agenda which is really damaging our children as Sally stated with the above example of that animal Goodman! Once people of faith rise to challenge the control & political power that the Gay and Lesbian Political Action Committees have amassed here in Mass--then "tolerance" of an opposing view goes out the window and they always attack the messenger and avoid debating the issue because they cant win. Fact-the Bible says homosexuality is wrong and a sin. Fact-the Christian,Jewish, Buddhist and Muslim faiths all teach that homosexuality is wrong and a sin. There is no debate. Adults in this country are free to do what they do behind closed doors as long as they do not violate the law. The issue is leftists have no right to "demand" that I disavow my religious beliefs and agree with them that homosexuality is "normal behavior" when it clearly is not. We do not need more judges in Mass like Murphy in NY and Lenk here. It is really quite simple as Sally has stated. Why have the Gay and Lesbian PACs pushed 2 people into this race? Any reasonable conclusion would be they want more judges confirmed like Murphy and Lenk. If Duff and Epply publically renounced these PACS and told us who they really are and what they stand for, I would consider them both. I do not expect that to happen. Their silence on the subject of who is behind them explains everything!

When you move into the public arena as someone running for elected office, you open yourself up to scrutiny, criticism and the demand for transparency that all reasonable people expect. If people want to be anonymous and dont want to be scrutinized and questioned--stay home--dont run for office. No one forced these candidates to run-they chose to do it and their "liberal mob"uses these web sites to attack anyone who would question what their real motives are. It isnt enough that the left controls 180 seats in the legislature, all the state wide offices, with the worst, most left wing governor the state has ever had in Patrick. All the congressional seats except Scott Brown, the voice of reason, & 6 of the 8 seats on the governors council. Conservatives are outnumbered here, leaving the state in droves, yet how dare the few that are still left have the audacity to publically express their opinion. I'm glad to see Eddie Doyle out from behind the bar but hes had too many drinks! I challenge Epply and Duff to publicly condem NY Judge Martin Murphy's outrageous decision to sentence homosexual animal Andrew Goodman to just 2 YEARS last week after being found guilty of 48 counts of criminal sexual acts-the rape of many young boys! Would they vote to approve someone like Murphy in Mass? Why are the GLBT PACS so interested in this race? Look at their previous elected officials, its a terrible record! Barney Frank, Gerry Studds, David Scondras, all criminals! NO to Epply and Duff!

It sickens me to read the homosexual vs the bible nonsense on this blog. As usual you Religious Right hide behind the bible to step on the views that you oppose, and bully those who speak contrary of what you interpret as what is right based on your religious blasphemy! Check your facts, understand the issues, and know your candidates before you speak.
Since the early sixties, The Duff family has woven themselves into the fabric of what has made Peabody a 'World Class City' as it it today. These positive examples set by her parents have inspired Eileen Duff to continue to their work in "Public Service. Her education, experience, and compassion set her apart from the other candidates in this race. Duff has an open mind, the ability to listen, and can see both sides of an issue before rendering a decision, or formulating an opinion. In addition, she posses the intestinal fortitude to say 'NO' to those who's interest's are not for the good for the residents of the State. Ms. Duff has also given her free time to coach and support youth sports, helped Seniors with Medical Insurance issues, championed support for Special Olympics and has always been active in support of those with Downs Syndrome. She is not one to sit idle on the sidelines, and let misdeeds slip by. She is a person who get things done by rolling up her sleeves and digging in either by herself, or organizing and directing a team to get the job done!

Well said, Eddie Doyle...and agreed! If you people feel so strongly about this, why don't you run against her? Don't want your skeletons to fall out of your closet? (Pun intended)

From Blog #2: Sounds like "Running Green" is Running Scared. The argument defending consenting adults in the privacy of their bedrooms applies to all consenting adults, including when engaging in incest (adults), polygamy and not just gay sex. There's nothing to fear if it's in the privacy of their own homes, right?

Didn't realize I needed to respond. You are stating that gay marriage, which is a consenting relationship between two non-related people, will lead to incest and polygamy. Why couldn't that apply to a heterosexual couple? A heterosexual couple is free to do what they want inside their own home as long as no one is hurt physically or mentally, so couldn't that also contribute to what you stated? I am not saying that you need to support gay marriage; do not belittle or demonize anyone who does support it, though.

Also, this race isn't the referendum on gay marriage that everyone is making it out to be. Governor's Council only votes on the Governor's nominations, doesn't make the choices. Before voting, I would try to see what other issues are at play.

I never said that there was a causal effect, only that the argument could be applied to any private adult activity.
Who belittled or demonized anyone? Just being open-minded.
I guess some liberals (not calling you one, so relax) aren't as opened minded as the claim to be.

So you are using one couple's image to characterize the entire debate. If both of the girls were attractive, then would there be absolutely no issue?

I'm sure that their parents are very proud that they are standing up for their civil rights. They must of had the day off from work.

You're correct Laura. As Ann Coulter says,
"Words mean nothing to liberals. They say whatever will help advance their cause at the moment, switch talking points in a heartbeat, and then act indignant if anyone uses the exact same argument they were using five minutes ago."

First of all, Laura, I apologize for my choice of words. I was referring more to the general tone of these comments rather than to you specifically. I should have chose my words more carefully, and I apologize for not doing so.
Secondly, there is a difference between debating and yelling. If you want to explain the cons of gay marriage, such as believing that marriage isn't a partnership between two people and solely the union between a man and a woman, I have no reason to argue with you, even if I don't agree with you. That is a valid belief. However, to invoke the horrific event of a serial rapist to explain why someone such as Ms. Duff shouldn't be considered for office because of gay marriage is wrong, in my personal opinion.
And there is one thing that Ms. Brooks failed to mention in her post. Andrew Goodman was not sentenced to two years following conviction, but rather as part of a plea deal. I would look more towards the prosecutors who formed that deal rather than the judge, even if he deserves some blame for accepting it.
A Pache, if every person who held liberal beliefs was like that, I would agree with Ms. Coulter's quote. However, you are characterizing that population very broadly. It is similar to someone with liberal beliefs stating that all conservatives are hunters, meat eaters, and old rich guys. It isn't right and has no place in political discussion. Everyone is different, regardless of what they believe.

"Mike" posted, "your beliefs don't just stop at my front door, they stop at the front door of your church." But it's OK, for Gays to have a Kiss-in at a restaurant whose founder is expressing his free speech and religion. I wouldn't want to see heterosexual people behaving that way in front of families with small children just trying to eat lunch. Instead of the in-your-face protests and parades, keep it in the bedroom, and maybe people would be more accepting.
