Wilmington Student Wins Prom Video Contest

Zack Frost will be honored during assembly Wednesday afternoon for "Dance. Don't Chance." victory.

educators have been sending the message to students stay safe, especially around prom and graduation season.  That message is now coming to the student body from one of their classmates as well.

Zack Frost will be announced as the winner of the state’s “Dance. Don’t Chance.” video contest at the school on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Frost’s video was chosen out of about 50 entries that stressed the importance of safe and sober driving.

“It’s the most important message we can get out there to kids and familes,” said WHS principal Eric Tracy. “Any time you can get a message from someone that’s close to them, one of their peers, or someone in their age group, they tend to pay attention to it.”

State officials will be in attendance at the ceremony on Wednesday to award Frost with a prom prize package. Frost’s video was one minute long and delivered a powerful message of what impact drinking or texting while driving can have.

“A high school prom should be about being with your classmates, dancing up a storm and creating memories,” said Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton. “We want out students to be safe and that night is always a difficult one. You worry that someone is not going to make a good decision.”

Tracy said Frost is regularly involved in video projects, and has a passion for it. In addition, Tracy said he is a humble and hard working student.

Wilmington’s senior prom is scheduled for Friday, May 4.

“We are very proud of Zack,” said Benton. This is an incredible honor for Wilmington, but then against we have such wonderful students and teachers, it does not surprise me that a Wilmington student won.”
