Wilmington Man Accused of Attempted Murder on Prostitute

According to the Lowell Sun, Jason Barakos was arraigned in December for an alleged incident that took place in Lowell.

An alleged November incident with a prostitute in Lowell has a Wilmington man facing attempted murder charges.

According to a report in the Lowell Sun, Jason Barakos of 3 Nickerson Ave. pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges in Lowell District Court following an incident that was reported to police on November 12.

On that day, The Sun reports, officers were flagged down at a homeless shelter where a 27-year-old woman told police that about six weeks earlier, she had been working as a prostitute on Westford Street.

The woman told police that a man had pulled up in his vehicle and said he was interested in business, but she said no to the price he offered. After the man drove away, the woman claims he returned and they agreed on a price.

It's at that point that the woman alleges Barakos wrapped the seat belt around her neck and began to choke her with it. The woman fought off the alleged attack and escaped from the car.

Barakos was arrested after the same vehicle returned to the area and the alleged victim was able to write down the license plate number, The Sun reported.

An arraignment took place on December 3 and a probable cause hearing was slated for January 2 but postponed until March 5, according to the newspaper.

Let me get this straight, a "hooker" says the attack happened 6 weeks before the arrest and that the man wrapped a seat belt around her neck? Then she noticed a similar car and then flagged over the police? Wow, sounds like a solid slam dunk case.
