Wildcats Winless No More [VIDEO]

Girls lacrosse team bounces back from last second tie the game before to earn first win of the year on Friday.

The Wilmington girls lacrosse team let a lead slip away late in the second half the day before. They weren't going to let history repeat itself.

After Burlington tied the Lady Wildcats with just seconds remaining on Thursday, Melrose began chipping away at Wilmington's advantage late in the game on Friday.

Melrose sliced into a five goal Wilmington lead and made the game 10-7 in the final minutes, but the Wildcats held on to that margin and earned the win.

"Getting the first win is definitely something good to have under your belt," said Wilmington senior captain Courtney Cavanaugh. "Yesterday was a really close game and it ended in a tie, but today we really put together our best effort and got the win."

Rachael Mara, Caroline Robarge and Brittany Cavanaugh each fired home two goals in the win while Lauren Stalker, Megan Priem, Emily Colosimo and Ryan Gautreau each notched a tally of their own.

"It definitely sets the tone, and gets the girls in a good positive place," said Wilmington head coach Maura Kee. "Once you have the first win under your belt it makes it a lot easier to move forward."
