Scott Brown to Talk With Wilmington Veterans

Monday event gives local veterans the chance to share concerns about current and future issues.

There are many issues facing veterans when they return home from active duty. Wilmington’s veterans will have a chance to talk about their concerns with one of the state's politicians on Monday.

United States Senator Scott Brown is slated for a visit to Wilmington’s Knights of Columbus on Monday at 9:15 a.m.

According to Veterans’ Agent Lou Cimaglia, veterans and their families will have the chance to have coffee with Brown and share their thoughts on issues facing veterans currently and in the future.

Brown will speak to locals for about an hour during the event, which will take place in the downstairs hall of the building.

Cimaglia said he expects the claims process to be a popular topic of conversation. According to Cimaglia, many times when soldiers file an injury claim or something similar to the Department of Veterans Affairs, it is often taking up to a year to settle because the VA is handling a high number of cases.

Wilmington’s Veterans’ Agent said events like Monday’s visit with Brown help local veterans remember that they aren’t forgotten when they return from duty.

“He’s very personable, and really sharp,” said Cimaglia. “Guys feel good when they are able to talk to someone like Scott Brown about their personal issues.”
