School Will Resubmit Turf Appeal, Installation Delayed

Town will submit proposal as a part of the entire project, instead of individually following appeal.

After a group of 10 residents appealed the installation of artificial turf for the high school project, the town has withdrawn its turf proposal and will resubmit the stadium package as a part of the overall school project.

Because of the change, the turf will not be installed by August 20 as originally scheduled. Despite the adjustment, Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton said she believes the project will be completed in September 2014 as planned.

The Department of Environmental Protection reviewed the residents' appeal and decided they could not fully investigate the matter, leading to the school's withdrawal, according to a press release from the school.

Benton said at Wednesday's School Committee meeting that the entire project is slated to go before the Conservation Commission on April 25. The turf will now be a part of that discussion.

Check back on Monday for complete coverage of the decision and its impact on the project, along with reaction from town and school officials.

DEP could not fully investigate the matter? Or maybe DEP told the Town that their proposal violated state wetland regulations and would not be approved!

I hope these issues bring more people out to the meetings--get to know the faces that make this town better--not worse...
