A plow truck hit a gas line on Ballardvale Street early Sunday morning, according to a scanner report.

Around 12:37 a.m., police and fire responded to the area of Frito Lay Inc., 337 Ballardvale St. on a report of a large gas leak, according to the report.

A plow truck allegedly struck a gas line, and a deck gun was in use on the leak, according to the report.

According to reports, the "sizable" leak was controlled by crews while they waited for Reading Municipal Light Department and the gas company.

People in the area reported that they were able to smell the gas as it leaked from the property. Deputy Fire Chief Rick McClellan said he was not on duty Saturday night, and that he was not called to the scene.

Are you sure that the plow guy didn't just let one rip? If not, how the heck does someone construct a gas line in the path of a plow or close proximity?
