Readers Select Patch's Teachers of the Year

We received the most nominations for these three educators. Is there anyone else we missed? Let us know in the comments section below.

Choosing a Teacher of the Year in Wilmington wasn't easy. That's why after receiving several nominations, we decided to spotlight three.

The majority of Patch readers' nominations for the 2012 Teacher of the Year went to this trio of educators. So find out what your fellow residents had to say about them below.

Kelly (Cushing) Sullivan, Special Ed teacher at the West Intermediate School: "Truly the definition of 'teacher.' She not only inspires her students but their parents as well!"

Patrick McInerney, Third grade teacher at Woburn Street School: "Not only is Mr. McInerney a great teacher he is just simply an overall nice guy. He will spend his breaks outside with the kids at recess playing soccer and football with them. His class if full of boys and girls who play soccer, baseball, football, hockey and he is an avid Bruins fan, hockey player and coach himself. So he "gets" the sports thing with them and does activities with them to help them learn and have fun. The kids in his class are competitive and he will take that energy and channel it into learning activities for them. It's just something I have not seen and wish more teachers took their cue from him."

Tracey Kassin, Social Studies teacher at Wilmington High School: Kassin is the advisor for the high school's recently formed September 11 Memorial Committee. The group was formed to raise money so when the new school is built, a memorial can be built to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Who did we miss? There are plenty of great teachers in Wilmington Public Schools. Let us know who you and your kids think does a great job in the comments section below.

Mrs.Kelly Sullivan gets my vote. She is just an excellent teacher. A huge advocate for her students as well as their parents. I will truly miss her when my son moves onto the Middle School.

Mrs. Holloran, at the Wildwood Kindergarten School has to be one of the best teachers in the Wilmington School System. My son had her last year and this year my daughter has her. She has been a teacher for 17 years. With all her experience, she has developed a great sense of what the kids need to know as their base for the rest of their lives. She is so caring and is invested in each child in her classroom. She involves her students by assisting her in her teaching throughout the day to give them the confidence they need for the future. I know many other parents would agree with my statements. She makes me want to go back to school. Such a wonderful teacher! I will miss the Wildwood after we leave this year.

Your children are off to a good start. My daughter had Mrs. Holloran (Miss Rogers at the time) back in 2002. I will never forget when she said at our first meeting, "These kids are ready to learn." An excellent teacher.

Mrs. Amy Iascone from the North Intermediate will go down as probably the best teacher my daughter has had thus far. Mrs. Iascone wants nothing more than for her 5th graders to be academically, organizationally and emotionally ready for Middle School. I commend her for all of her efforts and I think she is an absolute gem in our school system.
