Possible Four-Way Race Emerging For Board of Selectmen

Quiet election season, so far, in Wilmington.

Thus far it has been a fairly quiet election season in Wilmington.

There are two offices for which no one has taken out nomination papers and three more that would be uncontested as of today.

The only excitement can be found, as usual, in the race for the Board of Selectmen. Board Chairman Michael Newhouse and Lou Cimaglia are up for re-election, with Daniel Murphy and Kevin MacDonald prepared to launch challenges. To date, however, the only candidate among the four to return nomination papers to the Town Clerk's Office is Murphy.

As for School Committee, there is guaranteed to be at least one new face this year, as vice chair Robert Hayes announced he would not be seeking re-election. Chairman Margaret Kane has taken out nomination papers, as has fellow incumbent Kathleen Carroll and challenger Julie Broussard. However, thus far, a fourth candidate has not emerged to make it an actual race.

According to information provided by the Town Clerk's Office, here is the list of potential candidates to have taken out nomination papers, as of Feb. 19. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on March 8 to return their nomination papers with the signatures of 50 registered Wilmington voters.

I'm not familiar with Dan Murphy but I certainly would NEVER consider Kevin McDonald for Selectman.
In today's climate, I feel that you should also be a tax paying property owner to be qualify for a seat on the BoS. I question the legality of Mr. McDonald's ownership of land off of Andover St. If you look at the records, it seems suspicious.

It might help if you knew how to spell my name correctly Cynthia. I have been a property tax payer to the Town of Wilmington for almost three decades. You sound like a gullible person that believes everything Mr. Newhouse says no matter how incorrect it is. I feel sorry for you. I hope you will be healed.

Not just Cynthia - I'm afraid the very author of this article spelled your name wrong, Kevin...

My apologies Kevin. I did spell your name wrong in the article and have now corrected it.

Cynthia,
First of all congrats on your impending grandmotherhood. Although I have had a few back and forth volleys with Kevin MacDonald on the issues, I do believe he does own land off of Andover Street from when he was a builder and has a legal right to run for office. The voters will speak as they did with the high school and the majority will be heard.

I believe if Kevin ran solo, he would lose to none of the above. I thought he owned property on Deming Way?
